Chief Shaffer has 28 years experience in the fire service, with 24 years as a paramedic. He is a Certified technical rescue technician, certified fire investigator (IAAI-CFI), certified wildland fire investigator (FI-210), International Code Council certified fire inspector I and II, plan reviewer, training officer/ instructor, safety officer, youth firesetter interventionist, and PEER support provider.   He has served at almost all ranks within the fire service at professional departments. He has experience from extremely large and complex scenes to assisting a community member to get to their doctor appointment. He has investigated a large volume of fires,  provided testimony for various criminal court case involving emergency medical responses to arson investigation cases.  With inspections, his motto is to protect the public, the employees, the firefighters and the fire equipment in case of an incident at a facility.
